3.3b Bias Free Reporting

1) State the pros and the cons of the topic that you are presenting.
2) You should not sound to excited about your topic.
3)Do your homework so your facts are stated clearly.
4) Do not try to convince in your story, it will seem that you are biased.
5) Do not give any links or phone numbers.
6) Do not write the Gender-Specific pronouns.
7) Assume the best about people.
8) Ask Questions.
9) Make the facts clear so that there is no room for judgement.
10) Quote accurately.

3.3a Consider the ethics of news reporting

Censorship- is the suppression of speech or other communication. Individual privacy- to keep information to yourself, its your privacy. Libel- is the communication of a statement. Obscenity-is an expression. Pressure groups- a group that trys to influence public policy. Profanity- the language that you use. Promotion-the publicising of a product or organization. Unpopular viewpoints- a point of view that nobody is interested in. Sensationalism- this term is used to describe mass media. Controversial topics- a story that cant be biased or made up facts.

A seventeen year old was reported vandalizing the town of Macklin. The teenage boy is reported to be 5'10 big body build and has black curly hair. If you have any information on who this teenage boy please contact the R.C.M.P.
